SPHERE ORIGIN
A piece of architecture, reduced to the scale of scent.
GRADUS once emerged as an object. As a step. As a bookshelf. As a place where form rises without haste.
This time, the same geometry has been reduced until it fits in the palm of a hand.
Its principle has not changed. Only its scale has.
An object for books and the body has become an object for fragrance.
From Space to Scent
GRADUS 02: FORMS OF SCENT was not conceived as a conventional perfume bottle.
It began with a question: can fragrance acquire an architecture of its own?
Not packaging decorated with architecture. Not a bottle inspired by a building. But a genuine small spatial object whose function is revealed only through closer contact.
Three steps remain the defining feature of GRADUS. Their rhythm creates an upward movement, and at the highest point a single distinctive element appears — a glossy red sphere.
It is not decoration.
It is a point of tension, an authorial signature, and a subtle disruption of otherwise calm geometry.
SPHERE ORIGIN
The first object in this branch is called SPHERE ORIGIN.
Its matte, almost mineral body contrasts with the perfectly smooth gloss of the sphere.
Cold and soft. Geometric and organic. Calm, with one precise accent.
The spray mechanism is integrated directly into the mass of the object so that it does not disturb its clean silhouette. From the principal viewpoint, the technical element remains hidden.
GRADUS should first appear as a sculptural object.
Only then as a perfume.
Material as Part of the Story
The outer body is conceived in recycled aluminium with a finely matte surface in an ivory shade.
Aluminium enables precise edges, clean transitions, and the monolithic character essential to GRADUS. At the same time, it creates a cool tactile impression related to stone.
Inside is a separate glass refill cartridge. The outer object does not have to end when the fragrance runs out. Only its contents change.
The red sphere, made of pressed glass or lacquered metal, forms the only glossy point in the entire composition.
Packaging That Does Not Disappear
A conventional perfume box made no sense here.
GRADUS is therefore placed on a low stone plinth and protected by a transparent cover made from recycled acrylic.
The plinth stabilises the object, while the transparent cover creates a miniature display case around it. The packaging is not merely a means of transport; it becomes part of the presentation itself.
Once the fragrance is used, it gains a new life.
The stone base can continue to serve in the interior as a place for jewellery, glasses, a candle, or another personal object. The transparent cover can transform it again into a small private gallery.
Fragrance disappears. The object remains.
A Haptic Sequence
We do not perceive GRADUS with our eyes alone.
Touch is a direct part of the design.
Stone. Cool matte metal. A smooth glossy sphere. The gentle resistance of the mechanism. A click. Fragrance.
STONE. LIGHT. ASCENT.
The design gradually moves from material to touch, and from touch to the essence itself.
What Makes GRADUS Different
GRADUS does not try to look like a traditional perfume bottle.
It has no conventional neck. No decorative cap. No need to explain its function immediately.
Its identity emerges from its form.
The same geometry that once carried books and the human body now carries fragrance.
The scale has changed.
The DNA remains.
Philosophy
GRADUS works with the idea that an object does not have to end when it fulfils its first function.
The bottle accepts a new refill. The base receives new contents. The transparent cover can protect another object.
Design is not a disposable backdrop here.
It is a long-term system that can continue.
Conclusion
GRADUS 02: FORMS OF SCENT continues a single form at a different scale.
Architecture became an object.
The object became a ritual.
The ritual became fragrance.
And when the fragrance disappears, the form remains.
A piece of architecture, reduced to the scale of scent.
Open Design Partnership
Some ideas emerge in a single afternoon.
Others wait until they meet the right person.
This design is one of them.
