Sleep is something we take for granted — until it starts to disappear.
In Sweden, however, rest is perceived differently. As the foundation of quality of life.

With Pavlína Rosendahl, founder of NATY NATY, we talked about why a bed should be the first thing we address in an interior, how to find the right one, and why sleep is the greatest luxury.

01 — The Beginning

How did you come to beds and to your brand NATY NATY?

I came to beds by chance, when after returning from Sweden I translated a catalogue for a well-known Swedish company that manufactures and sells beds.

02 — The Name

Some brands are born from a business plan, others from something far more personal. What story does the name NATY NATY carry?

I came up with the brand name from the Swedish "natti natti", which means "nighty night".

The story is simple — to sleep well in a bed that contains natural materials most beneficial to our body. Cotton, wool, linen and horsehair are materials that have been used since time immemorial.

03 — Sleep

Why do you think people in Central Europe still underestimate the quality of their sleep?

In today's hectic world, we often think that sleep isn't important and that a mere 4–5 hours is enough. But the opposite is true.

It is important to sleep at least 7–8 hours. After seven hours of sleep, the glymphatic system activates, which "cleans" the brain and removes waste products.

If these substances accumulate, it can contribute to serious illnesses such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease or cardiovascular disease.

04 — The Scandinavian Approach

In what way is the Swedish approach to beds and sleep different from what we are used to here?

In Scandinavia, people are better educated on the subject of sleep and mental health, which is why they place great emphasis on the quality of materials.

A bed is often the first thing they address when furnishing an interior. It is essential for everyone who wants not only to live well, but above all to sleep well.

05 — Clients

What do people most often deal with when they come to choose a bed?

They most often deal with back pain, hip pain and insomnia.

06 — Intuition

How do you recognise which bed is the right one for a customer?

First we analyse what the customer is currently sleeping on — the type of mattress and the materials used.

We then try various combinations of firmness and materials to find the ideal combination.

07 — Interior

What role do you think a bed plays in the overall atmosphere of a bedroom?

Everyone has different tastes and preferences. In general, however, the choice should lean towards muted colours and natural materials.

Ideal materials include down, silk, linen or wool. Conversely, we should avoid compromises such as polyester, hollow fibres or memory foam.

08 — Rituals

Do you have any personal evening ritual that helps you sleep well?

I value going to bed at a regular time. I light a candle and meditate for at least 20 minutes every evening.

Equally important to me is morning meditation, which prepares me for the day — in calm and with joy.

09 — Advice

What one thing would you recommend people change in order to sleep better?

I recommend regular sleep habits — going to bed and getting up at the same time.

It is also important to calm the mind and not to keep negative emotions inside.

10 — Closing

What does good sleep mean to you personally?

For me, good sleep is the greatest luxury.

Quality natural materials allow the body to regenerate and prepare for the next day. The greatest gift is to wake up full of energy and in a good mood.

Sleep is the best luxury. Spánek je ten nejlepší luxus.

Thank you to Pavlína Rosendahl for her calm, openness and sharing her perspective on sleep as the foundation of quality of life.
