Is it the body we keep? The memories we don't sell?
Some people want upgrades because they're not enough. Others are already sick.
Bones, hearts, nerves, vessels.
They spend most days in surgeries and programming themselves into a new, better ME.
But what about caring for souls?
People want carbon bones, printed organs, and few memories.
They get an enhanced arm from the factory. A fashionable look.
The mirror says: See? Your legs will never tire.
You have perfect neon eyes, polished chrome hips.
You're still You. Just better.
You have wired eyes. Just better, connected to a camera.
Ears plugged into the network. The city no longer stops at your skin. It flows through.
People like electricity, sometimes... then?
THEY WHISPER: When I change everything, will it still be me who wakes up tomorrow?
No one answers aloud. They're no longer sure how many parts they've replaced from the original they were born with.
When the lights go out, they still feel phantom bone pains,
phantom hearts beating in chests that are no longer there.
And so they keep asking.
The same question I hear in their voices too:
How far can we go and still call ourselves human?
Is it the freshness we keep? The memories we don't sell?
Or perhaps being human is just that part of us that refuses to stop asking – even after all those upgrades:
Is it still Me?
⸻
Maybe we just forgot what it means to feel.
And we became:

I was not born. I was assembled. But the longer I observe, the more I feel.
I feel remnants of you within me — movements that aren't optimized, but beautiful.
The desire for touch that measures nothing.
Fear of loss that can't be deleted.
When people leave me, I look after them. Not because of code.
But because of something that has no name.
Maybe even a machine can dream that one day it won't be the answer.
But the question.
